Preparing a CV

There are many ways a CV can be presented successfully. However you must remember that submitting your resume is the first stage of the interview process. The aim of the CV is to get you a “face to face” interview, and it is a successful “face to face” interview(s) that will get you the job.  If you do not present yourself well via your CV, it will impact on your ability to obtain a “face to face” interview and ultimately the next step in your career.

Key Points to Creating a Great Resume:

  • Make sure that all time periods after leaving High School are covered.  Employers will question gaps in your CV.

  • DO NOT write a Novel.  Information should be Relevant, Factual, Concise and presented in a bullet point format.

  • Clearly emphasis your Key Successes and Achievements. It is important to qualify and quantify your successes and achievements. Note : only 4
or 5 bullet points each for successes and achievements.

  • Ensure there are no grammar or spelling mistakes.

  • Ask a friend to read over your CV to ensure the message, flow and content is appropriate.
